Hi,
A colleague and I have been having a discussion about the value of the mask in the facial. She prefers to use the moisturizer as the final mask and leave it on when the client leaves. She logically points out that she thinks it is a waste of product to put a mask on the face for ten minutes and then just wipe it off after. I get the logic there, but have a lingering feeling that the mask serves an important need, even though it is removed at the end of the facial. Can anyone talk about the science behind leaving a mask on then removing it?
Thanks

Hi Marcia,

A lot of masks are designed specifically as treatment masks, meaning they have some sort of active ingredient or enzyme that's working while it's on the skin. Some treatment masks can become more active as they are left on the skin, for this reason they need to be removed. Also most masks need to be removed so that proper finishing products can be applied. There are Finishing Masks that are designed to be applied after your serums and power products to help drive them deeper into the skin, and get better results out of them. These still need to be removed a) because your client will most likely look ridiculous leaving with a physical mask on their face and b) so they leave with proper moisturizer and of course SPF. I don't know if this is the scientific answer you were looking for, but this is why I feel masks need to be used then removed during a treatment. Hope this is helpful. :)

I agree. Always followed Manufactures Data Sheet (directions)
Some are meant to stay on BUT not always. Chemical reaction is the reason ;)
