Ok, I can't tell you how many cosmetologists that tell me that the esthetician license is useless because you can get a hair license and do facials. I personally wanted an esthetics license because that is my passion, but I am hearing about more cosmos that are doing hair and taking the facial business to. Anyone have any comments on this? I am not trying to be a jack of all trades, I really love what I do!

I work where I can do both so its a great combo as I have more facial clients but can still do hair too.
I do hair nails and skin but I limit nails to natural only. I dont care to do acrylics. I really dont care to perms, roller sets or keratin. I prefer cuts color and up do.

Cosmetology is the best carrier among others that you have chosen.. Today everyone want to look young and beautiful...They take help from cosmetic treatments to look young and beautiful.. So many people go to cosmetologist to take these treatments..

Where I am at, a cosmetologist is more trained than I am so it makes perfect sense.  It's just like anyone else in this business.  You have to put extra energy to your passion in order to see a return.  If I was going to a cosmo and she was passionate and well trained (more so than other Esty's I know) why wouldn't I?  Especially to get my brows dyed. :D

Facials and nails are a part of the training cosmetologists receive, even though it is a very small part.  Having an esthetician license means you are a "specialist" and have received more training on that subject, and because you exclusively do skin care, you have more experience as well.  The cosmetologist in general just knows the basics and can do a "fluff" facial but not really do in depth treatments that show great results.  On the positive side, it is cheaper to get your Esthetician license if that is all you will be doing, as the cosmetologists have to train longer and the training is pricier.

Anyhow, don't let the cosmetologists tell you that your license is useless, after all, the majority of them went to cosmetology school because they want to do hair servuces and also had to learn the "useless" skills of facial and nail services... and pay for it.. and then not use those skills in the end...

Guys, stop hating on cosmetologists. I did the entire 2300 hour program because I wanted to discover where my passion truly lay. It turns out I love esthetics above all else but I also love cutting hair. I was inspired by two aunts--one who was a master Esthetician and one who is a master colorist. Now I'm an Esthetician but still cut hair occasionally. Whether you focus on skin or focus on hair, you're only as good as the advanced education you seek. And that goes for people who only pursue esthetics too. This industry is so great because we are CONSTANTLY learning--how cool is that?? Please stop lumping all cosmetologists together as total incompetents. I'm sorry some of you have had horrible facials--my experience is different. I've gotten great facials from people who mostly do hair and have had lack-luster facials from Estheticians who really had no passion for their craft. Granted, the very BEST facials I've received were from dedicated estheticians but I don't know if they graduated with a cosmetologist license or not. I absolutely love what I do and customer feedback tells me that my clients love what I do too.

AGREE!!! I have been to many estheticians who are really bad and don't get any training beyond the basics (which is only what is taught here where I'm at) and I have been to a couple of Cosmostologists who have been AMAZING and knowledgeable.  We are all in this business TOGETHER.

The last sentence you wrote says it all. We should support and encourage each other. <3
