I am in need of assistance...
Today I met with a new client- Early 40s, Fitz 3, struggling with laxity and excessive wrinkling (esp eyes and laugh lines.)
After discussing her expectations, treatment goals and budget I made the decision to send her off with a bit of education, instruction and homecare samples. She was hesitant to begin a treatment program- (even though I only begin my regimens with a cleanser, am spf and corrective pm treatment.) But something in her heart prompted her to come in for a consult. I am hoping for positive feedback when I folllow-up with her later this week.
Which brings me to my query-
When I call to follow-up with her I want to be able to answer a question she posed to me. (I told her that I didn't know the answer right then but I would do some research and follow-up later.)
She was concerned with a tiny clear bump located on her upper eyelid, located midway between lashline and brow. The bump is non-irritating and no swelling associated. She did say she has picked at them before and a small amount of clear fluid drained out.
My assumption is syringoma, but there appeared to be only one impaction on each eyelid- but not a cluster. She's had the bump(s) on/off since 1998. (She believes the clear bump(s) is a direct result of a 'botched' eyelid lift in 1998- which she feels irritated the remaining sweat glands.)
From what I can tell, if it is in fact a syringoma then they can occur at any age- onset usually puberty? So maybe she just never noticed them before?
SO...
I guess I am wondering if there is anything else it could be? (I think I have ruled out milia.)
And if there are suggestions for treatment other than surgery/co2/laser removal?
Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate your input!

I did follow-up with her earlier today and told her what I suspect(syringoma) and briefed her on the description/treatment options. I did remind her that I am not an md and cannot diagnose. And I did urge her to speak with a derm.
I appreciate your quick response, thanks again!

Send her to her derm.
(Though this IS a great topic for discussion ...pictures would have been even more fun!)

Yes, I did tell her that I am not an md and cannot diagnose conditions.
Should I not have even told her that I suspected syringoma? I did stress that it may not be, and that it is outside of my scope, and that it would be important to contact a derm.

Even if you had the same thing, always note and send your client to their Dermatologist. You then can confirm (note her chart) when she comes back to visit you. She will also most likely say; Thank you!
Success to you!
Permalink Reply by Kyong on February 24, 2012 at 2:07pm @Mary- thanks for your feedback. I def feel convicted about my oops. In the future I will come up with a go-to line for such instances and not even suggest what it could be.
Something like, "Since I am not an MD, I cannot diagnose or suggest treatment options for said condition. I would happily refer you to a derm for consult, if you prefer."
Thanks again!
