Do you wish you could go back in time to that carefree period of childhood? Not only was life easier back then, with less worries and obligations, but our skin was smooth and healthy. There are people with naturally healthy and glowing skin who, seemingly without the slightest effort, manage to look flawless every day.

Not everyone is that fortunate, sadly, but that doesn’t mean that others can’t have it too, with a little help from a powerful friend – makeup.

First things first

Do you start preparing a meal without all the ingredients and using dirty dishes? Of course not! The same goes for applying makeup: you need to prepare your face and make sure you’ve got everything you need.

Wash your face regularly: pollution, makeup, not to mention stress, can all take their toll on your skin, and you need to take good care of it if you want to keep it healthy. Your skin is like a canvas which you’re painting and turning into a work of art: try keeping it clean because that way you’ll get the best results.

The key step in your morning routine is using some gentle cleansers, like creamy Alpha H Balancing Cleanser, that can help balance pH levels in your skin skin, keeping it fresh and hydrated throughout the day. Use gentle cleansers every evening, and in the morning, wash your face with cold water to close your pores and reduce puffiness.

Baby steps

There are people who skip using primer because they don’t have the time (or are just genuinely lazy to do so). Primer is important because it keeps your makeup in place and makes it easier to apply different products.

Depending on your skin type, you should choose a foundation with a velvety or semi-matte finish (use the latter if you have naturally oily skin). While cream and liquid foundations might be a bit easier to apply, they also make the skin look moist and you will end up with too much glow which will make your skin look too oily. Try out different products and pick the best foundation for your skin tone carefully.

Makeup is a form of art, and pro makeup artists are just that – artists. Did you ever hear about a great musician with a really lousy instrument? Or did you ever see any professionals with bad equipment? When you’re devoted to something, it’s only natural that you want to do your best.

Decide which ‘tools’ you most like to work with. Do you apply makeup with your fingers, a sponge, or brushes? Then use only the best makeup brushes and take good care of it: you should always use gentle antibacterial soap for your sponges.

(Glowing) Cherry on top

After you have carefully prepped your face, it’s time to apply the highlighter. Making your skin glow by sing makeup is incredibly tricky, mainly because you need to know your face well and to know exactly which parts of it you should highlight without looking ridiculous.

As a rule, you should highlight the bridge of your nose, Cupid’s bow on your upper lip, and your cheekbones just above the area where you usually apply blush. Be very careful and thorough when you blend it because you don’t want the highlight to be sharp but soft and natural. Just a tip: if you really want your glow to appear natural, opt for a highlighter without shimmer (save the shimmer for a night out).

Even though leaving your home without wearing makeup may seem like a disaster to you, an even bigger disaster would be wearing your makeup for longer than it’s necessary. Remember that you skin needs to breathe and don’t forget to exfoliate and apply moisturizers regularly, because these simple tricks will help you get beautiful skin.
