There aren't many male Aestheticians out there, let alone ones that do Brazilians. How would you feel about letting a man perform a Brazilian on you? Would it make a difference if he was straight or if he was gay?  Interested to hear your thoughts.

I used to contract for a male spa owner that was a Esthetician.  People said he was good with Brazilians and brows, and plenty of females let him do it. He's married, and have two kids. There were a couple of clients that walked in and said they were not comfortable with a man waxing them. Personally he was in touch with the  female side, but who knows if he is gay or happily married.

Most of my male gay friends back in the U.K that are Estheticians only wax men.  There are sooo many men over there that do waxing but prefer to wax pee pee instead of lady garden!   If a man was gay and was interested in waxing females i would be ok with it.  But i wouldn't be comfortable if he was straight waxing me down there.  I am ok with a male doctor but not a man doing something 'cosmetic' like waxing.   I couldn't relax i don't think.  There are plenty of women to choose from that can wax me .... so i will just stick with what/who i know! :)   btw, did i tell you i loved using your wax this a.m for the male Brazilian!   Loved it!  He liked it too! :)

I know from personal experience when I asked the male esthetician/ massage therapist what did a client get done one day. Suprised the male got a Man-Zilian he said.

I just did a private training for a male student (Dale) from Arizona, yes, he came all the way to me in little ol' Barstow.  At first I thought it would be strange and hard to get models, but I actually got two models to agree.  He was wonderful!  He's straight with a family.  His manner is very calming and he made the gals feel at ease.  Plus he did an awesome job with both the Brazilians and Brows, his first time on both.  Personally I'm not sure I would want to be waxed by a man in my "lady garden" area, but I think he's going to do quite well.  He's also an airplane captain and already has about 20 flight attendants signed up for Brazilians this week.

Wow, that is very interesting Crickett ! He has interests in two different worlds, planes and esthetics. :)

If he was gay I would give it more consideration (probably yes). If he is straight I highly doubt it, unless I know him on some professional level and he won me over. Which is a little weird for me to feel this way because I have no problem with a male OB/GYN

I know, somehow the MD after their name somehow provides a sense of safety.   But I have know many women who have been creeped out with inappropriate behavior from their MD's.

I had to think about this for a while, but I've decided it would not make a difference to me whether the esthetician was male or female. I would be slightly more comfortable with a female, not for privacy reasons, but just because I think somebody with the same equipment is going to be more aware of how it feels. The same would go for a man waxing a man. But assuming the person is very good at their job, the privacy/embarrassment issues would not concern me.

As far as the gay man/straight man question, I don't think that would ever be a factor. It's not like you can tell without asking, and I'm definitely not going to ask ... same thing goes for women estheticians if you think about it ... and to be honest, if any esthetician is thinking about that sort of thing while they're ripping wax off someone's hairy butt, they have bigger problems than I do.

So true.  This student has been getting Brazilians himself for years, so he knows how it feels.  Personally, I think if you are going to give Brazilians you should get one.  At least one so you know how it feels.  I have trained and spoken with so many that are willing to give them, but would never get one.  It really does make a difference when you know what the client is experiencing, it helps you to improve your speed and technique.

I thought I'd throw in my two cents worth here! As long as the esthetician is professional and properly trained, I don't think I would care too much whether it was a male or female, as long as the male was experienced in performing female Brazilians. I agree with you, Crickett, that their demeanor can go a long way in making the female client feel at ease. I also have gone to a male OB/GYN for many years, and that never bothered me at all. For now, my esthetician is a female, so I won't have to worry about it at the present!

Hi there, I'm a male estie and I'm constantly busy with female & male brazilians. I also have a home treatment room and the ladies feel comfortable coming to me. As I've told other esties, at some point its just skin. I think the fact that I'm a gay male helps put them at ease. Also, the coasts seem to be a bit more liberal with this. I moved from SF to DC and all is fine. Here are some of my reviews, I never ask them to write them, they just do. http://www.yelp.com/biz/browbeat-beauty-washington

Wow, what great reviews! It is really great to have the opportunity to hear from estheticians like you on this board, who are at the TOP of the game in their local area! That is some very, very impressive feedback from your clients.
