Hi Ladies, I've been tinting my own lashes for awhile and now I'm going to offer this to clients.  How do you explain the safety of eyelash tinting?  When you read the consent form from ascp  and the first line reads "potential blindness should the tint enter into the eyes" scares even me.  I use Intensives from Universal.  Can someone please explain to me the tint and how it is safe to use in the eye area.  Have any of you had problems with tinting and how would you avoid those same problems in the future?  Thanks!  i really love tinting my eye but I want to be prepared for the questions clients will haev about the safety of eyelash tinting.

i love tinting and i tint my own lashes and brows etc as i was trained in Europe on this and it is a service over there that is huge.  I do know in the states it varies from state to state as to whether you are licensed or not.  Some states require that you have to have a cosmetologists license before you perform this service on clients.  Crazy i know!  So first are you licensed to offer this?   In California a Cosmetologist can offer this, but it has to be a tint that is vegetable based so it is friendly to the client!  So all of these things need to be known before you  ask any questions.  Does this make sense?    I am all for tinting....but some clients CAN be very sensitive to it no matter what the product is and sometimes messing with the eyes can be dodgy.....for some reason in England it is a big seller and a big money maker with no neurotic behaviour stopping us from doing what we are competent or trained to do.   Again, i hope this makes sense.  xx

Claire, could you outline how you apply tint? Thanks.

For lashes or eyebrows?   I do eyebrows different than most and i WILL be putting this all on DVD that i am doing in the next month.   It is very, very simple.  You could do it standing on your head.

claire@premierbeautysolutions.com.  Email me and i will see how i can help you the best i can over email (before the DVD comes out)

For lashes. Mainly, do you do it with eyes open or closed, and sitting up or lying down?

I agree with Claire about the vegetable based dye.  I use Berrywell and it seems to do the trick, they have a great assortment of colors too.  I think it's somewhat of an unspoken hazard, we all know that it could have potential negative effects, both as the service provider and client.  All you can do is be honest and let them know that it is a dye and could effect them, but likely it won't.  Typically they'll go for it because it's such a simple and quick fix!

I also use intensives and used it in school. We were taught that since its vegetable based it wouldn't hurt the eye. We always made sure the contacts were out. In school it got in my eye and burned so bad! I cut a cotton round in half, wet it, and have the client (laying down) look back at me and place the cotton under the bottom lash line. Then I apply the color with a tooth pick. To remove I get a corn round wet, squeeze out the extra, and do a window wiper motion. This works best for me. I just have to make sure when I remove that the cotton roun isn't too wet or it will get the dye in their eye.
